board -those who can maybe influence how the radio station runs or
continues to fail it's sponsors. Meeting is at an easy to find location.

NEW PROGRAMS CURSE AND 'FOUL' LANGUAGE USED
Some newly emerging programs - that include what was previously dis-allowed - with curse/ obscene/ sexual- explicit and derogatory words have been heard at the recently shifted hours of midnight to 3am programming, Mon-Thurs nights.
These have replaced prior programming that focused on self-help, health, spirituality and philosophy, and emerging motivating speakers, lectures, et al.
So many [prior loyal] donors, volunteers, & sponsors have veered away from such sudden loud and unexpected angry expressions - and so turned away completely now from KPFK.

Many stakeholders refuse to accept these changes and do not want to affiliate with this representation - nor listen to this version of programming.
Funny is a matter of different tastes. And some more adolescent-like or anti-authority people think that all curses or taboos are just 'funny' - just because they are uttered or shouted aloud. Then some do the "dare" thing and then feel pride for no actual accomplishments other than vocalizing these words.

This unusual new 'rule' proclaimed at KPFK on air - and the previously
FCC prohibited language and 'slang' - those phrases & words that are more
often used by : rappers, self-defined 'gansta' , or used in 'the streets', or by the more economically deprived and undereducated, and what is heard daily also the criminal cultures and prisons too - those have now been heard loudly
and prolifically at KPFK too.
In which direction is this surprise turn slanted ?
Is it funny or just lewd and sexual ?
Do most people guffaw at anything related to their groins
or bodily acts called 'sexual' ?
Are allusions to sex and 'those body parts' called 'funny' just because they are not used in academic or upper status environments or in business institutions?
Who are the intended audiences that will also then also pay-up-in-donations for their radio station maintenance ?
There must be an 'assumption', not a legal ruling or written permission, that KPFK can act-out verbally in any which ways these programmers prefer.
Can this be confirmed?
Or will KPFK be questioned and reprimanded ? or maybe not ?
And it appears to be an management assumption that anytime after midnight, anything 'goes' or can be broadcast, because 'the children do not listen during those hours' and so no one else could be offended. Nor could any adult dislike the tone and the intentions of using sexually body explicit words and those words so often used in anger and when violence is threatened. Right ? No ?
These fighting words - that may be angrily exclaimed along with threatening behaviors - are maybe now being used to claim 'freedom' of saying aloud any words anyone wants - to be used any time - as is done by some cultures, and not all, or others.
In some places 'curse' words and 'sexual act' words are commonplace and act as an identifier of that community, but those circumstances are not the same on a non-profit corporation's broadcasting air waves. Just like some communities commonly use words that are called "racist" and "offensive" if used by anyone else outside their worlds.
And since that type of slang and cursing version of the American-English language is mostly less-preferred or heard by those who want - and have worked, to obtain a better education and social status, and earned better. So many stakeholders of long-standing have complained and left the station, taking their $$$ and loyalties elsewhere in radio land.
This new emphasis of emerging 'rebellious' cultures, and maybe of minority groups, are now insisting and inflicting their cultural norms and versions onto the many others - who in majorities may turn their majority voices and funds away from funding KPFK, thus taking their donation sources elsewhere instead.
Even as the radio station repeatedly stresses it's need for more listeners, for desperately needed money, for dedicated funders and sustained givers, and for more... and more... more.. even while these unexpected shifts and drifts in programming instead reduces what KPFK needs.
The hope must be that the younger-demographic and looser-style listeners will also pay up too. So that these recently arrived late night programers can then also claim viability - for their paid-up-donors to then also make up for those other prior sponsors being dismissed now = the polite, considerate of KPFK paid-up-for-years-subscribers - but then that result is dubious and it may just be a failing experiment.

Plus the angry tone [some are angry minority] and loud voices heard during day time hours may also disrupt the previous tone of KPFK programming too. And then results in loyal donors finding other radio stations preferable, now. It is not a 'racist' thing but a notable shift in types of programs, with changes in content and volume, and the tones predominating there too.
Pandering to the poorest, or lowest of any-cultural norms, and using the language mostly used in prisons, in slums and dangerous places, in anger and used with violence - these may be a poor choice of presentations made by management.

The FCC will not ignore nor allow 1 radio station to
claim defiance of national rules and norms, just because these think they are
"special" and "can-do-whatever-we-want too."
Anyone who wants to hear the programs referred to above can listen to KPFK 90.7 FM at midnight - 3 am hours Mon-Thurs - which is to those who claim they are or have "awesomeness". Then with that disclaimer, they claim immunity from federal communication norms.
The FCC is not deaf, and it can also be contacted and questions asked of the US federal government directly - on line or by telephone. [ The Federal Communications Commission is the one that regulates TV, radio, broadcasts and more, not just for 'decency' and upholding USA norms, but that too.]
