"Pacifica Foundation Appoints New Executive Director To Grapple With Financial Challenges"
"Berkeley-The five-station Pacifica Radio network opted for change in 2017 by removing Lydia Brazon, the interim executive director since 2015, and replacing her with 2010-2012/2016-2017 Director William Crosier.
Notice it is the new Executive Director writing his own entry-and-Brazon's exit with little explanation of why she is being replaced, on what date, and what brought about this sudden change ...
So....after so many years of the prior "interim" ED...or this new "director's" qualifications and his time spent at Pacifica... and anything else relevant to this sudden move, the sparse description provided leaves too many questions and blank spaces ...or who moved one in and other one out ... hmmmm
The change comes as the network faces an unprecedented political situation in the United States, which is reeling from the assault of the newly elected Donald Trump administration on constitutional freedoms and governmental assistance programs.
Is it really possible that Crosier is blaming Trump for Pacifica's personnel changes without giving factual/actual or even 'alt-facts' to explain this blame-claim? How is what happens in the dark bowels of Pacifica and all it's opaque dealings and problems directly affected or related to the USA president who took office less than 1 month ago ?
Is the Director [we assume he means Executive Director ? = words are important and who /how they are used to spin messages ]saying Pacifica is so dependent on "governmental assistance programs" after they have delayed/ avoided their own audits for years and lost the 10% contributions from CBC [govt] without explanations for this neglect ?
Pacifica’s alternative news, information and cultural programming provides perspectives rarely heard in mainstream media and features the voices of artists, activists and public intellectuals.
the subtle promo here is that all programmers are "public intellectuals" or "artists"? with no ways to even confirm who those who are given on-air positions [of power and access to the public airways/ The American People] ? Those who get a program position remain stuck there for many many years and refuse to let other /new/ varied voices on but stay in place long past their 'due date' or 'best used by date'.
The network, founded in 1946 in Berkeley, California, faces an increasingly acute financial situation, with litigation recently filed by the Empire State Building for unpaid transmitter tower rent for station WBAI, and an investigation in progress by the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts over delinquent financial audits.
This admission has long been denied and withheld from stakeholders, and apparently not been properly investigated, corrected, or managed for a very long time, and maybe still seriously affects the radio stations precarious financial conditions. The wanting to 'kill off' the NY radio station, WBAI, by a faction and the clinging on and maneuvers by another faction[s] have barely been made public nor explained or described.
Crosier commented:
“Pacifica’s mission of alternative educational broadcasting is crucial to the future of this country. I will do everything in my power to ensure the Pacifica Foundation’s survival until I can hand over the network to the care of a new visionary leader. I thank my colleagues on the Pacifica National Board for their faith in me.
I know we have serious challenges ahead, but I look forward to working together with Pacifica staff and volunteers to catch up on the things we’ve been neglecting, and guide us to a better place”.
Strange & unusual ways of doing this press release as if in 3rd person while apparently the author or person responsible for this is the same one. Declaring that Pacifica is " is crucial to the future of this country" is a gross exaggeration and self-promotion, which may be inappropriate to have the release believable. Spins of any kind put in doubt any actual information contained therein.
Everyone must wonder at who and when a "new visionary leader" is expected, selected, by whom and what is really going on at the top of level of Pacficia . And who put their 'faith' in Crosier and on what basis ?
He is not the only or main person who "hopes" for any "working together" which has been a major crux and difficulty, for many years and through-out this institution...and continues so even right now.
Crosier holds a master of science degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and thirty-five years of experience in the development of computer-based electronic and electro-mechanical hardware and software systems for biomedical research.
He is a long-time radio aficionado and the former chair of the board and President of the Houston Peace and Justice Center.
How is a "long-time radio aficionado" give credence or relevancy to this man's experience in being a director of such a big non-profit-Corporation? What is his experiences and prior proofs of being a good-manager at Pacifica ? If not mentioned in his promo piece here, what can that indicate?
A wikipedia search provided NO information on this writer/Director. [https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Bill+Crosier+wikipedia] and Google information is very limited and unreliable. So what are his qualifications?
The Pacifica National Board made the change on Friday evening during a national teleconference.
Was this 'national teleconference' given public announced airings [many, not just 1-2] at each and every station, spaced out for paying public to know and inform other donors about this 'change' ? Or was only a small select group allowed in on this 'teleconference' and who were they ? Who are responsible or authorized to make this change and then to chose the 'new' [next] top director?
Outgoing director Lydia Brazon had held the interim position since October of 2015." ###
WHY NOW? and Why is the prior iED being replaced?
Where is the transparency, factual his-her-tory, and explanations of what that iED did accomplish, damage, help or not, and do while in top position ?
And what position is she perhaps being given/ transferred to ?
WHAT IS GOING ON THAT IS ALWAYS LEFT OUT AND 'HANGING' dangling ?
Stakeholders MUST write/ call / protest and demand more honest updated information about what they all have been supporting and protecting at Pacifica and at each local radio station !
To just passively read and accept whatever major changes are decided by unnamed and maybe unauthorized 'others' who have their own hidden-agendas is never enough !
Though often, like voters, many dont care to do more than the minimum, pay and get the way-over-priced-paid-for premium and just 'hope' for the best. But it mostly doesnt work out well that way, as noted for many years at Pacifica now. And other US government offices either.
